Malas are sacred symbols of our devotion, prayer, ritual and connection to the divine. A mala is a strand of beads and traditionally they have been used since the 10th century to aid in meditation practices. By counting the beads as we say prayers, mantras or chants we focus on the intention of our words. Malas can consist of 108, 54, 27, 21 or 19 beads. They have different patterns as well, that can signify the individual prayers that are recited when they are used. They have become a symbol in modern culture for connection to our spirituality.
I was given my first mala by MALA MAMA. We designed a custom mala together that would assist and protect me while working with clients.
We chose the gemstones most appropriate for my work and my needs. I was so enamored with the process that we decided to start a project of making malas for people who were fighting difficult circumstances in their lives. We did this for over two years but life eventually took us seperate places. I felt the need to make the malas after MALA MAMA moved away and to continue creating custom pieces to help inspire our spirits and our connection to ritual, as well as the divine.
My malas are one of a kind, no two alike unless you order them that way. I allow the energies of the gemstones to speak to me and to pair themselves in the ways that seem needed by others. I create custom order malas through collaboration with my customers as well as one-of-a-kind malas carried at various retail locations. It’s such a beautiful process to create a unique reflection of your personal connection to spirit.
